Halloween Product Catalog

I was assigned a project to create a fake catalog with several products advertised inside of it. I would be lying if I said that it was easy to design a catalog that looked visually pleasing. Before working on setting up an Indesign file, I did research on different catalogs. One of my main inspirations came from the Oriental Trading catalog that I get every year at Halloween for free. I looked at the way the catalog was separated into categories and the different products they sell in bulk. I also kept in mind that they have fair prices and that also led to their success. I started by creating a mood board with different pictures, fonts, and colors (pictured above). This mood board exists to show my different ideas for how I want the catalog to look. The next step was to make a long list of the products I wanted to have in my catalog. I determined prices for each item and the item number to go with the order form at the end of the catalog. I went on to Google Images and searched for high quality images for each product. I removed the backgrounds for each image so I had products that would fit nicely in my catalog. After throwing together the colors for the catalog and where each category would go, I added the images in with their names, numbers, and descriptions. The last thing to do with the design would be to add the form at the end and finish the back cover with fake testimonials.

It took awhile to get the catalog printed out because the copy center and I worked very closely together as a team to get the catalog to look perfect. I finally was able to take pictures of my catalog to show off the finished project.
